Yogyakarta (early morning): We stayed in a cheap Losmen style guesthouse and were woken up in the early morning, before the city traffic hours, by a multitude of beautiful sounds - a rooster that sometimes seemed to answer the honking of the trains and loudspeaker announcements from the central station some blocks away; a faraway ambulance; birds, some of them with very strange calls, one of them sounding like a kitten (or was it a kitten?); somebody incessantly sweeping the backyard; running water from an outdoor shower; voices and radio music.
